Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2026 — Polly is a friends-and-family beta. This policy is honest and complete.

What we collect

  • Account: Your Google email address and display name (from Google OAuth).
  • Learning progress: Lesson completions, XP earned, streak history, hearts lost per lesson.
  • Flashcards: Terms and translations from lessons you missed, plus your review grades.
  • Conversation transcripts: Text transcripts of your voice sessions with Polly. Email addresses and phone numbers are automatically removed before storage.
  • Settings: Your native language, target language, daily XP goal, and voice session consent timestamp.

Voice sessions

When you use the voice chat feature, your microphone audio goes directly from your browser to OpenAI — it never passes through Polly's servers. OpenAI processes the audio and returns a text transcript. Polly stores only the text transcript (with PII removed), not the audio itself.

You must explicitly consent to this before your first voice session. You can revoke consent by not using the chat feature — there is no retroactive deletion of transcripts already saved.

How we use your data

  • To personalize your lessons and track learning progress.
  • To calculate your daily XP and maintain your streak.
  • To generate spaced-repetition flashcards for words you missed.
  • To improve the Polly experience during the beta.

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with third parties except as necessary to operate the service (Supabase for storage, OpenAI for voice processing).

Data retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. Since this is a beta, we may reset data during major updates — you will be notified by email before any reset.
